Trei ani mai târziu, "îngerul baroc" a creat senzaţie: când BMW 502 a debutat la salonul auto de la Geneva, jBMW 502 jurnaliştii au primit cu un entuziasm nedisimulat primul motor din aliaj uşor din lume pe o maşină de serie şi primul motor în opt cilindrii de după război.

Because loss of Eisenach factory was very difficult for BMW to carve a new beginning after the war. Only in 1951 BMW introduced a new model at the Frankfurt Motor Show: 501. Called "baroque angel" because the body's curves, it has provided a wealth of engineering refinements. The chassis was applauded very docile. Even the transmission, which was placed on the steering column switch, offering something new: instead of being attached directly to the engine, gearbox fully synchronized four-speed, was located under the front seats, and was connected to the propeller shaft through an articulated . This arrangement had the advantage of allowing the creation of a very refined engine suspension. Six-cylinder engine, a modified version of the 326, 65 bhp and behaved, majoring in refinement 501.
